THREADLOCKERS SECURE THREADED ASSEMBLIES
Threadlockers:

  • Completely fill the voids between interfacing threads, which prevents side-to-side movement and ultimately prevents loosening.
  • Act as lubricants during fastener tightening. This lubrication allows applied torque to be converted into high clamp load instead of dissipating as friction or heat.
  • Provide a reliable seal, preventing leaks, galling and corrosion that can seize threads and prevent disassembly.

The different types of abrasive grain

Choosing the best abrasive grain for your needs

In choosing the best type of abrasive for your needs, it is also important to understand the differences between various types of abrasive grains. Aluminum oxide is one of the most common types of abrasive grains that may be used for many applications. There are also many other types of materials that may be used, including Zirconia, ceramic and silicon carbide.

Below is a quick quide to help you understand the difference between each compound.

Oxide d'aluminium

Aluminum Oxide

Aluminum Oxide is the most common & least expensive. Good starting point for most metal and wood applications.  Aluminum Oxide is usually brown or reddish in color, but can be blue, green or yellow (which usually indicates the presence of a grinding aid/lubricant). It is durable with tough cutting edges, but it dulls during use.

Zirconium

Zirconia

Zirconia Alumina is commonly referred to as Zirc or Zirconium.  Zirc is ideal for coarse to medium grit applications on metal (best choice for abusive applications).  Zirc is usually green or blue in color.  Works best under high pressure (which is required for the grain to fracture exposing new sharp edges).  It has large fracture planes and it self-sharpens as it cuts.

Céramique

Ceramic

Ceramic abrasives provide the longest life & fastest cut rate of all coated abrasives. They are the newest grain innovation and represent the ultimate in performance, providing an aggressive, consistent cut under moderate to high pressure. Ceramic is usually red or orange in color. Used primarily on metal applications.

Carbure de Silicium

Silicon Carbide

Silicon Carbide is good for grinding glass, plastic, rubber, paint, wood products, titanium alloys and cast iron.  Silicon Carbide is black in color. It is a sharp, hard synthetic abrasive. Its friable grains fracture to continually expose new cutting edges and permit fast stock removal.

Frequently asked Quesions about the new Zinc93 Cold Galvanized Coating

Question 1:
What exactly is Zinc93® Cold galvanized coating?
Answer: Zinc93® Cold galvanized coating is a zinc coating of minimum 93% (weight) zinc in the dry layer.

Question 2:
Is Zinc93® a Paint?
Answer: No, it gives the same cathodic protection as hot dip galvanizing, but it is applied as a paint.

Question 3:
If it is not a paint, what can it be compared to?
Answer: It can be compared with hot-dip galvanizing.

Question 4:
Does Zinc93® Cold galvanized coating give the same lifetime expectation as hot dip galvanizing?
Answer: Yes, it does give the same lifetime expectation as hot dip galvanising. It last even 3 times longer under water.

Question 5:
How does Zinc93® work?
Answer: The cold galvanizing acts as an active coupling to the steel parent metal to form an electrolytic bond.

Question 6:
Can we apply any paint on top of the Zinc93® Cold galvanized coating?
Answer: No, always use a compatible paint. Never apply petrol derivates e.g. tarred products.

Question 7:
What is the surface preparation before applying Zinc93® coating?
Answer: The surface of the steel must be clean and free from rust, grease, oil, silicone and all other chemicals.

Question 8:
Can we apply cold galvanizing on top of a paint?
Answer: Yes, but this doesn't make sense. Because there is no direct contact with the parent steel surface there will be no cathodic protection, the Zinc93® coating will only give a passive paint protection.

Question 9:
Is this cheaper than hot dip galvanizing?

Answer: Yes, because one can apply it locally as needed

Question 10:
Can we apply Zinc93® coating on top of old and new hot dip galvanisation?
Answer: Yes, this is the only way of restoring the old cathodic protection of old hot-dip layers. The surface has to be cleaned from loose rust and dirt.

Question 11:
Can we apply Zinc93® coating on light rusted steel?
Answer: Yes, cold galvanization will form a layer of iron hydroxide between the steel surface and the Rust; this layer will act as a rust inhibitor (transformer) preventing therefore any rust formation. The cathodic action will not be damaged. Ideally, it is best to remove all rust before applying Zinc93® coating.

Question 12:
Will there be rust creeping under the Zinc93® coating?
No, Zinc93® coating is not a paint. The Zinc93® "active" cathodic protection is the barrier. Zinc93® coating will remain onto the steel will not rust because of the cathodic effect of the surrounding zinc layer.

What are the Diferent Grades of Bolts

What are the Diferent Grades of Bolts

Within the industrial market in Quebec, there are several standards in hardware. Regarding imperial bolts, there are four main grades: 2, 5, 8 and L9. Fortunately, these grades are clearly identified on the head of the bolts. To identify the rank of imperial bolt (measured in fractions), one has to look over it's head. All information regarding the grade is stamped. All these grades of bolts are available at PR Distribution. Contact us for more information on our inventory.

Grade 2

G2: The grade two is the lowest grade on the market. A large majority of hardware available in retail stores is graded two screws, nails, carriage bolts, etc.. The density of the metal bolts that type of degree allows flexibility. This is why the majority of security bolts are graded 2, they will tend to bend before thye break which helps identify and prevent some possible breakage.

Grade 5

G5: The grade five is the most common grade in the industrial market. Often referred to as the'' grade basic'' or'' standard''. It is a grade'''' go anywhere with a nice combination of strength and flexibility.

Grade 8

The grade is the grade eight dedicated for heavy duty applications. Trucking, buses, heavy machinery and heavy applications are only a few areas currently using this type of degree. The eight grade is distinguished by its high load capacity, even at low diameter. Unlike grades two and five, grade eight is not much flexibility. It is'' breaking'', but at a much greater force.

Grade L9

Grade L9 or commonly known as'' 12'' grade is the grade of choice for manufacturers and repairers of heavy machinery. The mining industry, or excavations are heavy, Quebec, major consumers of this type of degree.

Mr. Zéphirin Paquet at PR Distribution

Mr. Zéphirin Paquet at PR Distribution

For more than a month now, the bronze bust of Mr. Zéphirin Paquet welcomes you in the main entrance of the PR Distribution  headquarters. Given that our address is 6500 Zéphirin-Paquet, we asked the family of the famous merchant, to offer him a resting place of respect on our streets.

The oldest boy in a family of 18, Zéphirin Paquet did not go to school. Hired at the age of 14 by a farmer in his village, he began working for a dairy in the faubourg Saint-Jean at Quebec in 1834. Two years later he bought his first cow and set up his own business in that district. He soon increased his herd and by 1840 had 20 cows grazing in Upper Town. His was the largest dairy in the city and by 1845 he had accumulated a small amount of capital. That year his barn burned down when fire swept the faubourg Saint-Jean and faubourg Saint-Louis, but he managed to save his cows and relocated his business to a fast-growing district in Lower Town near the Hôpital Général. His wife opened a small store in their home, selling hats, notions, and clothing.

Late in 1848 Mane-Louise told him that she was earning more in her store than he in his dairy and suggested that he join her in the clothing business. When Zéphirin refused to believe her, she challenged him to compare the earnings of the two businesses over the next year and to accept her suggestion if the figures proved her claim. At the end of 1849 the results were conclusive and Paquet sold his cows. The store occupied the entire ground floor of their house. Marie-Louise took care of sales and Zéphirin was responsible for purchases from John McCall of the Quebec firm of A. Laurie and Company as well as for customers, employees, and merchandise. By 1858 the enterprise had grown, expanding its clientele and increasing sales while operating strictly on a cash basis. The store burned down in the Saint-Sauveur fire of 1866, but the Paquets were able to remove their inventory quickly enough to save it. They took up residence on Rue Saint-Joseph, in the heart of Saint-Roch ward, where they remained in business.

Although they initially thought of their Saint-Roch location as temporary, it gradually assumed a permanent character. Paquet went from being a tenant to a property owner in 1878, when he gave up his live-in store and purchased a four-storey building. In the next dozen years he acquired adjacent blocks of land and buildings between Rue Saint-Joseph and Rue des Fossés (Boulevard Charest) for $60,000 cash. The business, run entirely by Zéphirin while his wife raised their nine children, continued to grow and diversified its line of products. Paquet built and expanded, and hired increasing numbers of employees. In 1890, although 72 years old, he still ruled over the ever-growing enterprise, whose workforce by then included some 150 people.

Zéphirin Paquet died on 26 Feb. 1905 and thus did not live to see this settlement. However, Le Soleil on 1 March 1905 published an advertisement that was a sign of the times: “Colossal Sale, Gigantic, Absolutely Unique . . . . Our special huge sales had to be interrupted for our three days of mourning. We wish to make up for these three days of inactivity as much as possible.” A new era had begun.

Come and meet Mr. Zéphirin Paquet at our head office at 6500 Zéphirin-Paquet in the Armand Viau Park.

The application of the 5 "S" a philosophy at PRD!

The application of the 5 "S" a philosophy at PRD!

Each end of the day, the employee is responsible for maintaining 5S's workstation, this procedure increases productivity, reduces research and provides a very positive and dynamic within the team which provide unparalleled customer service, that way all the workstations are standardized, in order to facilitate workflow, that is to say;

5S Introduction
The 5S method is a structured program to implement workplace organisation and standardisation. 5S improves safety, work efficiency, productivity and ownership. And a well organised workplace motivates people.

The programme is called 5S, since all steps start with an "S".

Sort deals with the contents of a workplace, and removes all items that are not needed.

Set in Order which refers to "a place for everything, and everything in its place" to enable simple acces to everyday items.

Shinedoes not refers not just to cleaning, but to "being proud" about the way the workplace is set.

Standardiserefers to having standards that everyone has to adhere to. Visual management is an important aspect to facilitate easy undersanding of these standards.

Sustainrefers to training of all employees and communication to all employees to ensure 5S application.

The 5S management program facilitates an excellent performance:

Safety: a well organised and orderly workplace is a safer workplace. 5S activities remove clutter, visual indicators alarm people for hazardous situations.

Improving production efficiency:5S supports a smooth production process in various ways. Searching for tools is eliminated, flow principles are applied, tools storage is done where they are needed most. Location indicators visualise how things have been organised, and non conformaties are seen at once.

Quality improvement: Daily activities like inspection help to keep the production process in the right condition. Defects are prevented, because deviations are spotted before they result into defects
